How to pit a cherry

Dale offered to pay the children one dollar for every ice cream bucket full of cherries they picked from our tree. Kassie was the only one up for the challenge!
Kassie and Ashton wash and pit the cherries.

To pit the cherries we used the large end of a skewer to poke the pit from the cherry. Kassie pushed through at the stem end, I found it easier to push through starting at the opposite end of the stem.

UMMMM... can't wait to taste that pie!

Very nice. Pictures and a slide show! Impressive. Picking, washing, pitting the cherries also impressive! Cherry pie, doesn't do it for me! Maybe a black forest cherry pie? Cherry pie with a chocolate crust? Get where I am going with this, Chocolate pie, I mean Cherry pie?

ok, so stupid question here...what kind of cherries are they? I have never seen any that weren't reddish/black. What do you do with them? Are they good to eat, just plain? "Inquiring minds want to know..."
