In time I'd like to blog about Mom's funeral and burial. In the meantime, I was thinking about my Aunt Mary Lou. She's the last one standing, the last surviving member of her immediate family. This is my Mother's sister. She is 10 months and 28 days younger than Mom. Wondering what it feels like to be the last one living.
Aunt Lou's father died when she was in her early 20's, her mother died July 13, 1974, her brother Richard passed away in November of 1989 and now her sister (my mother) July 20, 2009.
I overheard my three brothers talking after Mom's burial while we were still at the cemetery. They were discussing that I would likely be the last one living
out of the four of us. They said I had those strong female Wagner genes. We had two great aunts on my father's side that lived past 100. The last one to die was 107 years old! Of course, you never know when the good Lord will call you home, I could be the first to go! Regardless, I hope to live my life after the example of my mother -- always in the service of others. She certainly set the bar high. Not sure how I'll measure up, but I plan on doing my best.
