Blue chap stick

Yesterday during Sacrament meeting at church, Kaden discovered the chap stick that Ashton keeps in her scripture case. To keep him from screaming any more than he already was, I applied some to his lips. Once was not enough. After the third application he was satisfied that his lips had adequate hydration. Later in the evening while at home, Kaden found the glue stick that Avery left out after finishing up some last minute homework. Can you see where this is going?
When I noticed blue on Kaden's upper lip I couldn't imagine what blue food he would have gotten into. Then I found the glue stick on my bedroom floor with it's cap missing!

There was no blue food! Instead, it was "blue chap stick"!

Congratulations Ashton!

Ashton entered a contest to design the cover for the 2007-2008 yearbook of her school, (Alloway Intermediate School) and SHE WON! This was the picture and write up in the school newsletter. I'm not sure what they are holding, but it's not Ashton's design. When the yearbook comes out, I'll be sure to scan the cover and blog about it. Look how much taller she is than her classmates!!

Hey Maren, thanks for the balloons!

Avery and Bryson were invited to Porter Milam's 10th birthday party today. When they returned home from Porter's party they each had a bag of goodies! Included in those bags were balloons -- this afternoon's after-party-entertainment!

Thanks Maren and Porter, for a few good laughs from a few simple pieces of inflatable latex!

Building our year's supply

“From the standpoint of food production, storage, handling, and the Lord’s counsel, wheat should have high priority. … Water, of course, is essential. Other basics could include honey or sugar, legumes, milk products or substitutes, and salt or its equivalent. The revelation to produce and store food may be as essential to our temporal welfare today as boarding the ark was to the people in the days of Noah.” President Ezra Taft Benson My favorite food storage item... the dried apple slices! YUM!

This morning Dale and I went to the Washington DC cannery and canned our own food storage items. Our friends Bill and Diane Bartholomew came with us. We worked together to can nearly 800 pounds of food. It was fun, easy and went very quick!First we put the bulk foods into cans.
My job came next, putting an oxygen pack into each can and placing the lid on top.
Bill operated the can sealer.
Diane placed dates and labels on each can.

Although it's not a year's supply for either of our families, it is a start. We will be returning again soon, each time getting closer and closer to having a year's supply of food.

Respect

Each month two of the Littlestown schools (Rolling Acres Elementary and Alloway Creek Intermediate) feature a character trait. One student is chosen from each classroom that displays that trait. Last month's character trait was respect. Ashton was recently honored for receiving this award. She had her picture taken, received a written certificate and will participate in a pizza party.

Congratulation Ashton!

Ahhh... the beauty of snow!

Kaden couldn't nap this afternoon over the excitement of the snow! He kept peering out his bedroom window from the crib. After more than an hour, he was done trying to nap and called out for me to get him. Who can sleep when outside a winter wonderland waits to be explored?

Once the children arrive home from school my house will be transformed into a pile of snowsuits, mittens, boots, hats and winter slop!

OK Dottie, you asked for it!

I tried another new recipe last night. Even the children who claimed not to like it, ate what was on their plate without complaint. Believe me, if it truly isn't good, they let me know!

Pizza Hotdish
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped (I omitted this since I didn't have one)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 cans pizza sauce (I used 2 14 oz. jars)
1 pkg. pepperoni slices (I used approx. 4 ozs.)
1 pkg. shredded pizza cheese (4 oz)
1 box spiral noodles
Brown beef with onion and green pepper. Cook noodles. Mix noodles, beef mixture, soup and pizza sauce and put into greased casserole dish. Place pepperoni on top and cover with cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
I get most of my recipes from CDKitchen.com or Cooks.com. After the family has had a taste I ask if it's a keeper. If not, the recipe goes in the trash. Pizza Hotdish was a keeper!

Events of the past two weeks

Not much happening here to blog about. I'm afraid the start of our new year has been a little boring. Nevertheless, here are some pictures from every day stuff within the Eyler household. After dinner fork play.

While finally putting away the Christmas stuff, Kaden stumbled upon a tunnel hidden in the back of the closet.

There was a time when Kaden LOVED bananas. Lately he has been turning his nose up at them. I was surprised last week when he was willing to take a couple bites of one. I was even more surprised to later find those bites in the bottom of his potty!
Like father, like son.
Dale has been cutting his own hair for the past twenty years. Last week, after listening to me tell him for the umpteenth time that he needed a hair cut, Brady decided to follow in his father's footsteps and give himself a trim.
Not enough was taken off to suit me, but at least I can see his eyes again!

Brady found pleasure in scanning his own hand.

Kaden has held numerous conversations with my mother, ("Nana") over the phone since we last saw her at the end of December. Here he is with an old non-working cell phone telling Nana the latest news!

That's the update, as boring as it may be. I wonder what the next two weeks will hold!

New Year's Day

I guess we partied a little too hard New Year's Eve! The next day several of us were caught napping. I only wish I would have been one of them!

I should have taken advantage of Brady's deep sleep and took a pair of scissors to his hair!
