Produce, anyone?

We have been so blessed this summer with an over abundance of produce, most of it given to us. We had a few green peppers and tomatoes from our own plants, but most has come from my father. Dad is a big gardener, always has been. My mother's health no longer allows her to can and freeze all that Dad's garden produces, so he passes it on to me! Most recently he gave us 12 watermelon, at least 15 cantaloupes and more tomatoes! He has also supplied us with endless amounts of zucchini, green peppers, cucumbers, pears and some green beans. Our wonderful neighbors, the Reids, have been giving us yellow squash, zucchini, tomatoes and apples. Someone Dale works with has given us yellow squash and zucchini as well. It's almost more than I know what to do with! I have to include some of this produce in each of our meals. I hate to see it go to waste. I've made several zucchini cakes, breads, muffins and casseroles, pear pie, apple pie and six squash pies! We've had BLT's at least once a week, and I made cucumber and onion slaw twice. In a few weeks when it's all gone and no more is coming, I'll be wishing I had a fresh tomato and zucchini slices for my salad!
Kaden wasn't big on the watermelon, but he enjoyed eating his cereal out of the rind!

I'm gearing up for my favorite fall vegetable... turnips! Dad, I hope you planted some!

Um excuse me Gwenda, but did you say apple pie? I thought we were friends, but alas we apparently are not for I do not smell the sweet delicious aroma of a pie or just a PIECE of pie. Can you hear me crying? All I have is a traitorous apple candle. Soooo if you happen to make another apple pie PLEASE invite me over for a dessert that surpasses even chocolate. Yes, I said chocolate. Warm apple pie is the winner!
